By The Bay 12″ x 12″ project

When I saw ‘By The Bay’ suite at Onstage, I was immediately drawn to it. I love blues and I could see so many possibilities. I love watching the waves and sitting by the beach reflecting on the magnificence of the scene in front of me (in all weathers!), so I really wanted to make a 12 x 12 framed picture using the beautiful DSP. After a few weeks mulling over it, I began working on it.

The frame is a simple white frame from K-Mart. When I want to create a new page, I sometimes use the same frame as I had for another project. I put my project that I am taking out into a scrapbook folder, so that I can keep it and look at all the ones I have created over the years.

The DSP was cut into 6.6cm (3″) squares and mounted on 7.0cm (3½”)squares. I chose different patterns of the DSP and then began to add some embellishments to a few of them. One rectangle was 15.2 x 7.0cm with a piece of 14.8 x 6.6 cm DSP on it.

I used the sentiment from the Seaside Bay stamp set and stamped and die cut the oyster shell and birds from it as well as some little shells for the larger rectangle. Some of these were coloured with my blends in shades of Crumb cake, Balmy Blue and Blushing Bride. I added them with dimensionals to a few of the DSP squares, as well as the sentiment and a Bible verse about how precious we are in God’s sight. The sentiment was stamped in Versamark and Gold heat embossed.

I placed the feature pieces on a 12 x 12 piece of Pool Party cardstock (was all I had at the time left over from a previous project) and before anything was glued in place, I looked at it and decided if I was happy with the placement. I felt that if I added a length of In Colour Baker’s twine behind the feature pieces it would give the whole picture more of a ‘beach’ feel.

I then began to place all the squares on to the larger piece using multi purpose glue – starting with the corner ones. I made sure that the twine was attached behind some of the pieces to secure it in place, but also left it free to twist and turn to add character to the picture…

I then added some diecut small oyster shells on the background. I used Distressed Gold Speciality Paper for these and I also added some of the pearl embellishments on individual squares.

When you buy the whole suite, you get the stamp set, dies, DSP, ribbon and embellishments. You receive a 10% discount on the stamp and die bundle if you purchase them together. This is a great buy!!
