12 Days of Christmas Advent Calendar: 2025: Day 5

Day 5 has one of the larger windows so I opened wondering what I might discover!! Inside was a set of stencils and a stencil brush. On a closer look, I realised that the stencil was that of some the DSP flowers from Day 2. The stencils are numbered 1-4, so you know which one to use first. Working out what the stencil shapes are is fun and it is good to play around a little with them first just to see what comes up and then you can choose the colours you want. Using a soft stencil paintbrush requires a little different technique from the blending brushes. If you have used these in the past, you won’t have a problem, but the idea is to daub the ink on with the top of the brush instead of brushing it on. It gives a better finish.

I thought of using it as it was and then decided to use the leaf like design as small flowers in Azure Afternoon. I die cut flowers and leaves with the dies from week 1 and used one of the tags from Day 4that had a gold edging. I ran this through the painted embossing folder to give it a 3D effect and cut it in half to make a vase. I cut an oval from the DSP (Day 2) for the background and then assembled the card.

I used Basic White on Highland Heather, but I added some ink to this with the stamp ‘Lasting Linen’. Instead of using one colour on the large stamp, I daubed it with different colours of ink such as Highland Heather, Azure Afternoon and a little bit of Old Olive. I didn’t go right out to the edges of the stamp because I wanted a different look. Then I assembled the card on a Basic White base. I used some Antique Pearls for the flower centres. The sentiment was stamped in Highland Heather. Both words are together but I carefully stamped one, cleaned off the stamp and then stamped the other. This was so that I could cut the two words apart more easily. I also added some white glitter paper leaves.

And this was Day 5!!!
