12 Days of Christmas Advent Calendar: 2025: Day 3

Day 3 changes things up again!! I had a little doubts about how I could use these embellishments! I am not a huge fan of Shaker Cards – mainly because I feel I don’t do them justice!! Maybe I just need more practice.

What could I do with these pretty gold dots? I began by making a New Year’s card. I used some of the DSP and Perennial Postage dies, foam strips and some left over Birthday Celebrations DSP from the 2025 Jan – June catalogue. I added the gold shaker elements and also a Happy New Year from an old die set that I had. This was cut out in Secret Sea Glitter Paper.

I am reasonably happy with how it turned out.

While I was working on this I wanted to make a box for display and thought I could make a window on the top. I found this project to be relatively simple and that was what I decided to show you today. My first prototype was in Garden Green and then I decided to make a slightly smaller box in Poppy Parade. The box is a cube with a lid. The first one I made used 12″ x 12″ cardstock. The box is actually quite simple to make and the only thing to watch is when making the lid. make sure you make slightly larger than the base. As I was working in inches for this, I added 2/8″ to each side of the top. I then added some DSP and cut a circle out using the circle dies. You will need to run this through your machine a couple of times to make sure you cut through the layers. I then added a piece of Window sheet on the inside and some foam strip around the perimeter of the circle. I chose some more of the DSP and cut it to fit the top of the lid – making sure I added it with the side I wanted showing through the window. Then I made up the lid and added the gold embellishments. I then place the DSP on the inside on the foam strips and a few dimensionals around the edge of the square. I love how it turned out. I added a diecut dog from the DSP to the top of the box.

Again I loved the challenge and feel much more comfortable using Shaker elements!!!
