90th Birthday Greetings

My mother in law turned 90 today. It has been a traumatic few weeks for her. She and my father in law were taken to hospital in early July after they both fell at home. Unfortunately Dad passed away two days later, and Mum has been in hospital until this past week. She is now home and we are having a family birthday tea for her tomorrow with the immediate family.

I wanted to make a special card for her. I was inspired to use Wonderful World DSP from the current Sale-a-bration catalogue. I really love this DSP. I fussy cut all the larger flowers from one of the sheets and then chose four of them for the card.

This is a fancy fold accordian style card. I wanted to create a larger card to accomodate the larger flowers, so it a 15.3 cm (6″) square card, instead of the usual A6 size. The base is a sheet of Thick Basic White and I used Starry Sky as a layer on the front and inside the card, before adding some DSP. I also enclosed some Starry Sky metallic ribbon under these layers, so that I could tie it closed.

The flower panels have a base of Starry Sky with an embossed layer of Basic White. I used a retired embossing folder called Greenery on this and then glued the flowers in place on each panel. I added some Wink of Stella on each flower, but not the leaves.

The panels were placed on a long strip of Starry Sky and placed inside the card, making sure the card would fold with these panels enclosed inside. The front sentiment uses the Amazing Thanks dies cut out in Starry Sky Glimmer Paper and the large numbers are from the retired numbers dies. Rhinestone Basic Jewels were added to the front.

I am delighted with the outcome and I know Mum will love this card.
