For my Timeout Thursday this week, I have chosen Spotlight on Nature. What a beautiful set! I have viewed some absolutely beautiful cards created with this set. I have tried to add some of my creativity to these!
Those who know me know that I love embossing. I love watching the way heat added to the embossing turns into something spectacular.
My first card uses Silver Embossing. I embossed three butterflies and then water-coloured them with three shades of blue – Balmy Blue, Azure Afternoon and Misty Moonlight. The embossing stops the ink bleeding into the card outside the image. I cut these out 3.2 x 6.4cm and each one of them was glued onto one of the deckled edge rectangles. These were placed with dimensionals onto a layer of Basic White embossed with the folder Exposed Brick. I layered this on Misty Moonlight and placed it all on a Basic White base. The sentiment was stamped in Misty Moonlight on Basic White.
The second card is another way to treat this set. Often Pumpkin Pie can be quite strong, but I love the effect of this card. I stamped the flowers and leaves on Basic White and diecut them with the Perennial Postage Square die. They were water-coloured in using Pumpkin Pie ink for the flowers. Garden Green was used for the leaves of the flowers and then the leaf stamp was coloured in with Garden Green, Pumpkin Pie and a touch of Cherry Cobbler. These squares were placed on a 5cm square Basic White base and added to the card with dimensionals. Before doing that, I embossed the front layer of the card with the new So Swirly Embossing folder. I added some Copper Brushed Metallic dots to the card and a sentiment, cut out freehand, in Copper.
The final card I made today used Very Vanilla. This is not a base I use much, but looks so effective with this card. I stamped the sentiment on the bottom right of the card in Copper. It is from Notes of Nature stamp set. I randomly watercolored a piece of Very Vanilla with long strokes of Calypso Coral, Cajun Craze and Copper Clay. Make sure this is completely dry before you emboss the leaves on top with Copper. I used a Deckled Rectangle to cut it out and added a piece of Copper Ribbon that was in last year’s Christmas catalogue (first time I used this gorgeous ribbon!) This was placed on dimensionals and added to the card front. Although it is very simple it looks very effective.
I hope you like these cards and would love you to comment on them.
