When I was at OnStage in Melbourne earlier this year, I won Frames and Flowers DSP in the Prize Patrol. It has been sitting in my file and I finally I have got around to using it. Sometimes I use the 12 x 12 papers but leave the die-cut designs languishing in the bag!! This time I decided to challenge myself to use the die-cuts. I love that I don’t have to cut them out, but I often find they come out of the safety of their sheet and lie loose in the bag. This time I bought a square takeaway container and took them all out and placed them in it!!
The first thing I did was get the matching cardstock out. On the back of the DSP, it gives a list of coordinating cardstock. This sat on the table for a few days as I looked at what I wanted to use!!! Then I began to see the possibilities!!
My first card used some of the smaller die-cuts but in a different way than I might normally use them (ie. bunched together). I die-cut some white frames with the Rectangular Stitched Dies (not current – but I love them!!) Use one frame and the next size inside or outside it and die cut a beautiful frame!!!! I wanted to imitate a picture frame so I cut a piece of Basic White and embossed it with Painted Textures Embossing Folder and glued it behind the frame.. I cut a similar frame and used ‘You’re in my heart and prayers’ stamped in Pretty Peacock for the inside of the frame.
These were placed on a piece of Basic White cardstock after I had scored seven lines with my Simply Scored Scoring tool which makes it so easy to get even lines. You can see me demonstrate this on my U Tube video.
This layer was placed on a mat of Lost Lagoon, then one of Petal Pink and finally onto the Pretty Peacock Base. I added some Blooming Pearls to the bottom right of the card. For the inside of the card, I used basic White and scored it 3 times to tie in with the front of the card and added a diecut.
The next card I attempted was also using a Pretty Peacock Base with Petal Pink. I embossed the Petal Pink with Exposed Brick EF. I then wanted to use the smaller die-cuts, but again in a frame and out came Unbounded Love dies. This a collection of wonderful shapes The ornate rectangular ones fit on top of each other, so I cut the background in Basic white and embossed these with the Exposed Brick. I then cut out the frame in Petal Pink and added to the white background and glued some die-cuts in each frame. These were added to the card with dimensionals and I added some Petal Pink and White Diagonal Trim to the bottom of the card and used another shape to cut out the sentiment, stamped in Pretty Peacock on a petal pink background and added it to the card. I added a piece of Basic White inside the card and a die-cut.
The third card used one of the rectangular die cuts on Soft Sea Foam with a base of Lost Lagoon. I used a strip of Petal Pink embossed with Exposed Brick behind this and some White Diagonal Trim. I added the sentiment stamped in Lost Lagoon, die-cut with the same frames and some Blooming Pearls. You can also use the DSP sheets for this card instead of the die-cut.
The final card uses a strip of the DSP placed on Granny Apple Green and then placed on a Soft Sea Foam layer embossed with Crosshatch. The card has a base of Garden Green. The sentiment is die stamped on Granny Apple Green using Garden Green ink and I framed it with one the Unbounded Love dies.. I cut the excess cardstock away to show the pattern on the leaves.
I wanted to keep going and try some more cards but dinner was calling!!! – and the Olympic Coverage too!!!! Maybe another day……..
