I needed some inspiration last week and was scrolling through Pinterest, which is often our ‘go to’ for inspiration for ideas for almost everything!!! I found a group of cards created by Patty Bennett, who is an Stampin’ UpĀ© Demonstrator in the USA. Patty has five different folds that she often uses for the basis of her cards. I loved what she did with Beautiful Gallery – still one of my favourite suites from the Annual Catalogue. She has given measurements for her card bases and you could adapt these to various DSP patterns.
I decided to use the idea, but instead of making them U.S. paper size, I redesigned these cards for our market and card classes. Our basic card size (A6) is 21cm x 14.9cm – half a sheet of A4. She made a Side Fold Card, a Gate Fold card, a Triptych Fold card, a Top Fold Card and a Front Panel card.
Here are my measurements:

- Side Fold Card: Base is 14.9cm x 19cm I scored it at 10.5cm. The DSP was 14.5 cm x 8cm and 14.5 x 5cm (two panels). A sentiment and embellishments were added to the card to complete it.
- Gate Fold Card: Base is 14.9cm x 21cm. The card is scored at 5.25cm from each short end and these are folded in to create a gate. I then used a layer of White Card 14.5cm x 10cm for the centre and added a sentiment. The front two flaps were double layered with the Basic White being 5cm x 14.6cm and the DSP being 4.6cm x 14.3cm on top. When the flaps are folded in towards the front centre , this is where you add the two layers. Open up the card and add another layer of DSP 5cm x 14.5cm on either side of the centre greeting.
- Triptych Card Fold: Base is again 14.9cm x 21cm scored at 5.25cm and 10.5cm. This is folded back on itself, so that when you open the card you have a full scenic view. Cut three top layers of DSP 5cm x 14.5 cm and one Basic White panel of 5cm x 14.5cm. Stamp on the basic White piece and laying card open, add all four pieces to the inside of the card – white one to the right. Then fold back the 1st panel so you can see the whole scene.
- Top Fold Card: This, like the Side Fold card, is 14.9cm x 19cm scored at 10.5. I cut a panel of Basic Beige to add to the inside 10cm x 14.3cm and added a piece of DSP to the bottom of it and glued it in place. The front of the card DSP is 14.5cm x 8.1cm. Using a 6″ x 6″ piece of DSP you can easily get the card out of it. I added a sentiment just above the inside DSP and there is room to write a message above it.
- Front Panel Card: This card has the same measurements as the Triptych card (14.9cm x 21 cm) and is scored the same way. It is two layered so I added DSP to the Basic Beige panels which measured 14.5cm x 10cm. The DSP was 9.5cm x 13.8cm was added to the front panel with a sentiment stamped on it and the inside panel had a piece of DSP 5cm x 14.5cm glued to the right hand side of it. I then added a sentiment on dimensionals, that was from the Right Words stamp set on the inside.
Why don’t you try these card templates for yourself with different DSP and see what you come up with!!
