Nests of Winter

I am very aware that it isn’t winter here in the Southern Hemisphere, although one day last week felt a little like winter was returning!!! I do love this paper and think I can put it to good use making some Christmas cards over the next few weeks.

This week I am casing two cards as I start exploring uses for the DSP. The DSP has shades of winter or even the beginning of Spring as the trees begin to bud. All the birds have been cut out from the DSP. Some have dies for ease of cutting and others have been cut freehand.

The first one that I am doing today is based on a card by Andrea Sargent from Adelaide but also based on a design by Sue Campfield which I have used before. I used my own measurements for this. I decided to make an M fold card. (I think M is an abbreviation for Majestic – I thought it was because it looked like the letter M!!)

My base was 21cm x 14.95cm. I scored and folded it at 4.5, 10, 11, 16, 17 and 21cms on the long side to create the letter M. I embossed some Basic White with the Birch Embossing Folder and cut it into strips. These are placed on each end of the card and on the middle narrow panel. I then used some DSP on the panel next to it. The centre panel has a feature on it with birds cut out and placed on a Basic White Countryside corner die, placed on a Cherry Cobbler layer. To mail it, the card lies flat and is easy to put in a C6 envelope.

The second card is inspired by Jo Nichols and I used the Hope and Peace stamp set on this one. I used DSP on a Basic Black base and added it to a Grey Granite base. The birds were placed on a Spotlight on Nature die. I added a little Wink of Stella to the berries and some Basic Rhinestone Jewels.

My final card is a very simple one, making use of the DSP and a sentiment. It uses the beautiful paper that has trees and some tiny birds on it. You can get six cards or more out of this 12″ x12″ piece. Each panel is 9.5cm x 13.8 and is placed on a layer of Early Espresso and then placed on a Crumb Cake base. A simple sentiment has been added to the card embossed in gold on Early Espresso. I stamped the bud inside the card. Similar cards have been made by others but in many ways each one is different depending on the sentiment and the treatment of the DSP.
